Skate Sharpening

Figure skates require a specific kind of sharpening and very few people have been trained properly.

They are not sharpened the same way as hockey skates and we have even had circumstances where new skaters have had picks removed by untrained skate sharpening services. And you can't figure skate properly when you're missing picks! Do not have picks removed.

Here are two skate sharpening businesses that have specially trained and knowledgeable technicians who can keep your blades in tip-top condition.

Sharpening is usually $10-15, depending on the sharpening required.

In general, figure skates need sharpening after about 35 hours of ice skating. Figure skaters can determine that their blades need sharpening when the blades start to slide sideways too easily.
